Boy Of The Week: Neil Alvin.

The man behind the amazing - BGKI.
We had a few questions for the blogger & here are his responses:

When did you come up with the concept of " Black Girls Killing It"?

I have been blogging photos of black girls for almost two years but BGKI only came about June/July 2011

What were your hopes/goals upon creating BGKI?

At the time, the blog's name was "neilalvin" so when I changed to "BGKI" I was hoping it would of made my blog easier to find. Seriously, who is going to google neilalvin?

What instantly attracts you to a woman's style?

When a woman dares to be different and her confidence shines through 400%

Creatively, what inspires you?

It would have to be that I like to leave my own mark on things.  Is it different or new? Most of the time if it's not I leave it out.

Who are some of your style icons?

When it comes to style, Michael Jackson!! He was B-A-D!!

How would you describe your personal style?

It would have to be "casual military", did I just create that?  I absolutely love the military look, I have jackets, shirts, shoes and pants that all incorporate that look but because of the climate of where I live, it would be keep me too hot to be fully decked out so what I would do is mix up those pieces with non-military pieces to stay cool.

What are your future plans for BGKI?

There is no limit. I would like to incorporate other areas where black women are making a positive impact. Acting, sports, non-profit, corporate etc.  Also, I am hoping to expand with males, that is why the website is blackandkillingit.com and not blackgirlskillingit.com.  So BGKI can work both ways,  Black Guys Killing It?

What's your advice/tips to others on managing a successful blog?

Always try to stay connected to your followers don't get caught up in how busy it can get.  Being unique and bringing a fresh perspective also helps

1. I'm Ambidextrous
2. I Recently cut off my dreads
3. I Live in Barbados

Neil Alvin has gone where no man has gone before.  He appreciates and displays the many variations and styles that black women have to offer.  For us, and many other young black women, BGKI is THE blog that we all have 'bookmarked' - where we can go to celebrate in the beauty and creativity of women and their unique take on fashion.  Each visit to this blog brings out the innovative and bold woman inside all of us - the pictures, interviews, videos, etc. are a huge source of inspiration.  The keen eye for style that Neil Alvin possesses is undeniable - but furthermore his portrayal of the black woman is beyond admirable.  Today, in the media and on the internet black women are not always shown in the most positive light, which is another distinct characteristic that sets BGKI apart from the rest.  We are truly honored to have had the opportunity to feature & have been featured by Neil on BGKI. We wish him continued success on Black Girls Killing It, and we are excited/anticipant about his future expansion and growth!

Betty & Boy of The Week : Generation of Dreamers.

Generation of Dreamers was officially established in September 2010, and we launched our blog and online store December 1st 2010. Our vision is for people to see that it’s not about fitting in, don’t be afraid to stand out. Color outside the lines and always challenge yourself and make your own path in life. G.o.d is everyone out there that knows that they are intelligent and creative enough to make their own path and follow what they are passionate about instead of being spoon fed what ideas society, family, and friends say success and happiness is.
We believe It takes a brave person to pursue something in which others may not believe in or understand, but we encourage it and will continue to lead by example.

Betty & Boy of The Week : Generation Of Dreamers:
Who is G.O.D--
C Dot- G.O.D is everyone out there that knows that they are intelligent and creative enough to make their own path and follow what they arepassionate about instead of being spoon fed what ideas society, family, andfriends say success and happiness is. we dream it...we wake up and do it.

T Dot- G.O.D is everyone out there who has the passion andcourage to follow a their dreams. It's takes a brave person to pursue somethingin which others may not believe in or understand.

Who is behind G.O.D--
T Dot- Cool Moe Cdot and Ty lol... Well Cad (Cdot) was in Philly when she initially thought of GOD. I was in Baltimore and tired of working for other people & had a dream of having my own business. I hit Cdot because I was going to start a clothing line and she pitched me the idea of GOD. We took a bus ride to NYC and discussed everything and we've been on the grind ever since.

Cdot- I thought of it when i was in Philly but didn't take myself seriously. When I moved back to Baltimore I was just so unhappy with my current situation, I got up off my ass and decided to try. a few days before I was set to ride to NYC to gather info Ty hit me out the blue like 'we should start a clothing line.' He's probably the most disiplined, honest business minded people I know, plus he's one of my closest friends. We wraped the entire trip and by the time we got to NYC it was a rap! Generation of Dreamers was in motion!

Estab/purpose--
T Dot-Well we were officially est. In September 2010, that's when we did all of our footwork. And we launched our blog and onlinestore December 1st 2010. That's was a great day for me lol.... Our purpose is to bring something different to the fashion world & express ourselves through our clothing. GOD is not just something you, you can feel it LITERALLY(have to see one of our tee's), relate to it and  have pride about being apart of our movement.

C Dot- Officially Sept 2010. Why?...Self expression is where I find heaven. Fashion happens to be the current outlet

Vision--
For people to see it's not about fitting in, don't be afraid to stand out. Color outside the lines and always challenge yourself. Make your own path in life. If your mind can dream it then why not wake up and do it?.. Generation of Dreamers!!

What to expect---
C Dot- Big shit! Lol a few changes for 2012 but 2012 will be bigger than 2010 or 2011. New shops and new looks. We'll be moving into cut & sew for spring 2012.

T Dot-You can expect us to be here Lol... We don't plan on coming and going we're here to stay. But you can expect us to give our all and be passionate about what we provide for our Generation of Dreamers family.

Where can we find you--
You can find us somewhere working hard, trying to make things better for our GOD family. And you can always see what's new or reach out to us at GENERATIONOFDREAMERS.COM our contact info is also there feel free to hit us up....

Fun Facts about Generation of Dreamers.

2. If I could wear sweat pants, one of our shirts and crocs all day everyday i would!
3. Im not a business man, im a business woman!

Ty / Tdot

2. I love sneakers
3. I will soon be taking up the acoustic guitar

Why Betty's & Boys Loves G.O.D
Generation of Dreamers has succeeded in making a brand out of a powerful/much needed message.  It's obvious today that individuality has become a thing of the past.  With everybody striving to 'fit in' , very few are courageous enough to stand out.  Regardless of what's been said to you or how negative your mindset may be, everyone is capable of exceeding above and beyond expectations, and this is the time to prove it.  G.O.D is without a doubt clothing with a purpose - a movement & we're so glad we caught on.  If you're anything like us here at Betty's & Boys then hopefully G.O.D has inspired you to go for what you truly want in life.  Whatever you're holding back , stop, let it go... because our society is in dire need of it! It's people like Cad and Ty who cause me to believe that soon and very soon entrepreneurship will take the place of Corporate America, and those who were brave enough to chase their dreams  - will find themselves doing what they love,  while their passion brings forth success.
Be sure to check out their site & blog!!

Bettys&Boys of The Week: No Apologeez.

Betty's & Boys of the Week: No Apologeez
NoApologeez is a new original sketch comedy show founded in Richmond VA by
Timothy Hill in August 2010. With inspirations from In Living Color and the Chapelle
Show, No Apologeez offers uncensored comedy sketches to a widespread Youtube
audience. The cast members consist of Timothy Hill, Ricardo Woolfolk, Steven
Williams, and Sharmane Bentley whom all reside in Richmond VA.

With its motto, Not Safe For Anyone, NoApologeez still offers a wide range of
comedy sketches that is easily appealed to all audiences. Although the group did not post their first video until 1 year after it’s founded date, they were still able to surpass 1000 views on their videos within the first month of their launch date. NoApologeez not only has a fan base, but a strong and growing fan base around the country totaling over 400 people since it’s launch 2 months ago. Their fans not only watch their comedy sketches but give feedback and continue to watch each time a new video is posted. As of today NoApologeez has 1500 total views and counting.
NoApologeez has also been featured on The Evolution of Perspective Radio Show with host
Ellen Gee and received a great turnout of listeners. “I respect and admire the creativity, ambition, and talent of the whole No Apologeez crew. I see nothing but greater things for them in the future.” -Ellen Gee

Why Bettys&Boys Loves Them:
With so much going on in our every day lives/struggles, things can become super serious really fast. It's important to laugh! Humor and fun allow us to forget what's going on around us and simply enjoy the moment and that's what this group is good at.  Their comedy sketches combine everything we love about our favorite sitcoms and the great classic comedies such as In living Color, SNL, The Chapelle Show, etc. and it's very cool to see that this group is well on their way to making a name of their own. The one thing that we always love to see in young entrepreneurs is Ambition- which you either have or you don't and if you don't you usually won't succeed. With No Apologeez  the ambition is quite evident and it shows in their work & in their rapidly growing following!  People love them! & So do we.
With just 2 months under their belt and a 400+ fan base, it's pretty obvious that the sky is the limit for this group & we're sure it's only a matter of time before No Apologeez is a household classic.
So much love & respect to you guys & Can't wait to see what's next!
