Healthy Hair: At Home Protein Treatment

I ran across this article about the importance of protein to black hair & a recipe for an at home protein treatment.  It's recommended to do about once every 6 weeks or so..
There are several types of protein and they all have different effects..
So before the recipe, here are some benefits of different types of protein for your hair:

Hydrolyzed Human Hair Keratin – This is the most potent of the proteins and matches the keratin in hair exactly. It keeps the hair pliable and strong.

Hydrolyzed Keratin Protein – The protein has been broken down so it can penetrate all layers of the hair better and as such is excellent for deep conditioning. It also keeps the hair pliable and strong.

Silk Protein – Silk is the strongest natural fibres and has very small molecules that can penetrate the hair shaft. It is excellent for deep conditioning as it’s known to soften the hair.

Animal Protein – This will generally just coat the hair shaft and repair damage on the outer layers.

Vegetable Protein – This absorbs more easily into the hair without leaving any build up on the hair shaft.

Wheat Protein – Used in many conditioning products, this is a moisturizing and strengthening protein which also improves the hair’s ability to maintain moisture levels.

What You'll Need

-1 packet unflavoured gelatin (about 10g)
-1/2 cup boiling water
-1/2 cup mayonnaise or conditioner

Benefits of Gelatin/Hydrolysed Protein: Hydrolysed protein is fabulous for hair because the protein has been broken down and the molecules are able penetrate all layers of the hair better to repair damage and make the hair stronger.

Directions:

-Shampoo your hair with a clarifying shampoo to get rid of build up. Your hair must be clean to absorb maximum protein.
-Dissolve the gelatin in the boiling water and mix with your mayonnaise/conditioner until well combined.
-Apply to wet hair combing through to ensure all strands coated.
-Sit under a dryer for 20 minutes to half an hour with your head uncovered
-Rinse the treatment thoroughly with warm water and follow up with a moisturising conditioner.

Super Simple!
